Jürgen Chrobog
Chairman of the Board of Directors, State Secretary (ret.)
Jürgen Chrobog has served as a diplomat and State Secretary in the Foreign Office of the Federal Republic of Germany from 1972 until 2005. Since July 1, 2005, Jürgen Chrobog has been Chairman of the Board of Directors of the BMW Stiftung Herbert Quandt.
After studying law in Freiburg, Aix-en-Provence and Göttingen and a short stint as an attorney in Hanover, the married father of three sons joined the Foreign Service of the Federal Republic of Germany in 1972. After serving as attaché to the Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York and in the office of Foreign Minister Walter Scheel from 1972 until 1974, he was chief of staff in the office of Foreign Minister Hans-Dietrich Genscher until 1977. From 1983 until 1991, he was spokesman of the Federal Foreign Office in Bonn and head of its press division. From 1995 until 2001, Jürgen Chrobog was ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany in Washington, D.C. Upon his return, he served under Foreign Minister Joschka Fischer as State Secretary in the Federal Foreign Office.
