Ilsabe von Campenhausen completed her studies of German Literature and History with a German master's degree and a French maîtrise and also read Mandarin for two years at Suzhou University (Jiangsu, P.R. China). She worked for four years at the German Foundation for World Population, a development cooperation organization promoting reproductive health in Africa and Asia, and subsequently helped establish the demographic think tank Berlin Institute for Population and Development, where Ilsabe von Campenhausen served as vice director. After spending more than seven years abroad, the married mother of three started her own intercultural communications consultancy before joining the BMW Foundation in 2009.
