Transatlantic Economic Dialogue

The Transatlantic Economic Dialogue is an annual trade policy expert conference, organized in cooperation with the Center for Transatlantic Relations of the Paul H. Nitze School for Advanced International Studies (SAIS) and GARNET - the European Network of Excellence.

A select group of some 30 personalities from international business, politics and academia discusses not only the future of international trade policy, but also develops far-reaching, long-term answers related to the global and regional economic and political order. The results and findings of the two-day expert conference are subsequently published in an academic journal.

The first Transatlantic Economic Dialogue took place in Washington, D.C., on March 4 and 5, 2008, and was dedicated to the topic of "A Declining Regime? - America and Europe in the Multilateral Trading System." The second Transatlantic Economic Dialogue on "International Financial Governance - Shaping the Future of the Global Economy?" was held at the head office of the BMW Foundation in Berlin, Germany, in the spring of 2009. The TED was continued in Washington in 2010 on the topic of "After the Crisis: Consequences for Companies and Economic Governance". In 2011, the Dialogue will be held in Cadenabbia on Lake Como and deal with the topic of “Diverging Lessons from the Crisis – How to Achieve Sustainable Growth”.
